Executive Director

Jennifer Leggour, Psy.D.

Dr. Jennifer Leggour is an Ocean City native, and has been a Clinical Psychologist by trade for the past 25 years.  She graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Salisbury University.  She then obtained her Doctor of Psychology degree from Loyola College in Baltimore, completing pre- and post- doctoral placements at Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Dr. Leggour has spent over half of her career at Worcester Youth & Family; first as a clinician, then as Clinical Director.  Since January 2020, she became the Executive Director, and truly enjoys all aspects of non-profit business.  Dr. Leggour is proud to be part of an amazing agency and support the community where she grew up.

 

Administrative Team

Brian Scarborough

Accountant/Business Advisor — Brian Scarborough has a B.S. in Economics from Allegheny College and has worked in the business and accounting fields for over 40 years. After running his own business for 20 years, Brian retired from private business and joined Worcester Youth and Family in 2015. In addition to his duties as Staff Accountant, he also acts as Business Advisor to the Executive Director. He is happy to serve Worcester County through the programs of WYFCS.

 

Rachel Mitchell

Communications Coordinator — Rachel (or “R”)  joined Worcester Youth & Family as the new Communications and Front Office Coordinator in September 2022.  After moving back to the Eastern Shore in 2019, Rachel put their skills to work in the beautiful Bay community with helping others.  They have both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Psychology and spent the last five years working with children and adults with mental illness.  Rachel is now thrilled to be a part of the team at Worcester Youth & Family and be part of its mission.

 

Worcester Navigation

Christine Felix, Director

Christine Felix is the director of our Worcester Navigation program, linking children and families in the county to resources.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from SUNY Albany and loves being a caretaker.  Christine has a successful history of working in the field of resource navigation with our former Family Connections program.  She enjoys living on the Eastern Shore and spending time at the beach with her family.

 

 

Jaryn Griggs

Intern, Worcester Navigation – Jaryn Griggs is a senior at Salisbury University, set to graduate in 2024 with a BASW. Jaryn graduated in 2022 with an Associate’s Degree of Social Sciences from the College of Southern Maryland, where he used to work for the Planning, Institutional Effectiveness, and Research Department (PIER). Jaryn also used to intern for Charles County State Senator Arthur Ellis in the 2022 legislative session for Maryland. Jaryn is originally from Waldorf, MD, but has a host of family from the Eastern Shore. He is on track to receive an MSW from Salisbury University as well, with plans to specialize in queer-focused group therapy and counseling. Jaryn has a passion for the mental health of all beings, but specifically for underserved LGBTQIA+ youth.

 

Worcester Connects

Kayla Figueroa, Director

Kayla Figueroa is the Director of Worcester Connects, our youth mentoring program for Worcester County students in grades 1 – 12.  As a former teacher in a daycare setting, she has over 5 years of experience working with children from birth to the age of 10.  Having served as a volunteer supervisor for Lower Shore CASA, Kayla also has extensive case management experience and the ability to oversee many volunteers and cases at a time.

 

 

Mia Carlotta

Volunteer Supervisor, Worcester Connects – Mia Carlotta is an Ocean City native and has been working in the field of Public Health for five years.  She attended Stephen Decatur High School and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Public Health from Salisbury University.  Mia is a Certified Health Education Specialist and is currently studying to obtain her Masters in Public Health, specialized in Community and Behavioral Health.  Mia is passionate about improving access to mental and behavioral health services.  She is a Holistic Stress Management Instructor and has planned workshops focused on stress management for all ages.  Mia has a passion for non-profit work and is excited to be part of the team at Worcester Youth and Family.

Kaliyah Lunsford

Intern- Kaliyah Lunsford, a senior at Salisbury University, plans to graduate in the spring of 2024. She was raised in Worcester County and is a graduate of Pocomoke High School. Kaliyah plans to focus on the behavioral health of children after receiving her bachelor’s degree. She intends to graduate from Salisbury University with an MSW in the future.

Youth Programs Facilitator

Leslie Dixon

Leslie Dixon is our Youth Programs Facilitator who runs the Berlin Youth Club and teen groups.  She is a Snow Hill Alumni and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Education at Salisbury University.  She currently teaches Pre-k and has experience with children 6 to 12 years old.  Leslie is also CPR and First aid certified.

 

Clinical Director

Caryn Horn, LCMFT

Caryn Horn has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Masters of Arts in Clinical, Counseling Psychology, specifically with a concentration/specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy. For over 10 years, Caryn has provided individual, couples and family based therapy with much of her training in Philadelphia, the “home” of family therapy. She functions in an eclectic manner within her therapy sessions, finding it most important to meet each client where they are. Although Caryn works with most populations, her specialty is in couples and families, promoting healthy relationships and attachments.

Counseling Team

Donald Carroll, LCPC

Donald Carroll, LCPC, is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor having earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health from Walden University. He has several years of experience working with children, teens, adults and families. He is well versed in trauma counseling and has a special interest in play and sand tray therapy for young children. Donny has extensive experience with several diagnoses including ADHD, Autism Spectrum and Mood Disorders. He focuses on the here and now and changing behaviors in the moment. His therapeutic style reflects on the need for growth and seeing tangible results from therapy services.

Jackie Hirsch, LCSW-C

Jackie Hirsch is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Certified having earned her Master of Social Work Degree from Salisbury University.  She has experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. While Jackie is open to treating various ages, her primary specialty is working with adolescents.  Jackie utilizes a mindfulness-based approach and has completed a certificate for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Teens.  She is also certified in Animal-Assisted Therapy and incorporates her therapy dog, Rory, when appropriate.  Jackie has expertise in treating ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and behavioral problems.

Courtney Herring, LCPC

Courtney Herring is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who earned her Master’s in Clinical Psychology, specializing in Clinical Counseling, from Capella University. She has a history of working with children, adolescents, and adults in group and individual settings. Courtney’s background experiences include: autism/developmental disabilities, co-occurring mental health and substance abuse, ODD, depression, anxiety, trauma and  attachment disorders. Courtney’s approach is eclectic, as she finds it crucial to meet client where they currently are, build a relationship and safe environment for clients to process and encourage positive growth. While Courtney is open to work with any age group, her primary populations include adolescents and adults.

Wilson Sawyer, LCSW-C

W. Wilson Sawyer, LCSW-C is a clinical social worker based in Berlin, Maryland. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Social Work in 2007 and practiced in Washington DC Public Schools and Child Protective Services before joining Worcester Youth and Family Counseling and the Worcester County Health Department. He works with clients of all ages and diagnoses, though specializes in treating high school students and young adults with a range of conditions including autism, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.

Mary Beth King

Clinical Intern – Mary Beth (often referred to as “MB”) is a Baltimore native who vacationed in Ocean City as a kid and is now fulfilling her lifelong dream of living in the area. She has her B.S. in Health Care Management from Towson University. MB is currently studying to obtain her Master of Social Work with a focus in Mental Health and Substance Misuse from The Ohio State University. She has experience working with all ages, but a significant portion of that experience has been working with adults. She has a passion for working with individuals with disabilities of all types and hopes to one day form a partnership with her clients to let them know that they are not alone in their journey to establish and achieve their goals.

Jill Loppnow

Clinical Intern- Jill Loppnow has been a part of the Berlin community for ten years, her and her husband decided to make Berlin, MD their permanent home after living years moving around with the Coast Guard. Jill received her B.S. in Psychology in 2022 from Liberty University and is currently working towards her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Jill has always had a desire to help others and is excited to have the opportunity to expand her knowledge and grow into a professional counselor.
